Collective responsibility in your own words

In 2010, I travelled to Swaziland with a team of Balfour Beatty employees to deliver a project which provided clean water to local communities. It really brought home the message that we should live within environmental limits

Our pre-eminent concern must be safety – not only of our own people, but of everyone we come into contact with. Our sustainability as a business depends on how we recruit, develop and motivate our people, so this must be a priority too. And we recognise our wider responsibility to the local communities wherever we work.

In this section, explore how we are:

  • keeping our people and communities safe through our Zero Harm programme
  • developing our employees to make the most of their talents, and to ensure we have the skills we need to grow our business and deliver our 2020 vision
  • ensuring our employees to have the opportunities to grow and maximise their potential, irrespective of age, gender, ethnicity, colour, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
  • working with our supply chain to innovate for more sustainable overcomes
  • helping to enrich the communities in which we work.
